I wasn't watching the comments section of this post so I was surprised when a package with the T-shirt was delivered to me! Thanks guys! :)

P.S. I didn't realize that my answer was so off compared to the right one, LOL!

Hi,

I am trying to change my hostname (Gandi Expert, Debian). Changed whenever $(grep -r $HOSTNAME /etc/ ) told me to but, at reboot, nothing changed.

I think I need to tell the system to change its entry in the DHCP server (?!), or there is a configuration parameter in the web interface that I missed.

This article seems to be tangent to my need.. any hint? Maybe you could include some more details on that here.

Thanks.

Firstly, let me thank everyone who participated in this little contest. It was rather interesting to see some of the responses. Now for the moment you've all been waiting for... yes, the answers to the quiz :)

The link is indeed the Walt Disney movie "The Rescuers" from the 1970's.

As I mentioned in the original post, there were clues hidden in the text, so let's take them in order:

1. "We must continue to salvage and maintain..." -- the word "salvage" is synonymous with "rescue".

2. "...overhaul the outboards" -- The name of the dragonfly in the movie was Evinrude, which is also the name of a manufacturer of outboard motors for boats.

3. The mention of Mickey Mouse -- of course this was designed to point to Walt Disney in general, but also James McDonald who played the voice of not only Mickey Mouse, but also of Evinrude in the movie "The Rescuers".

Some readers made mention of the Dragonfly Architecture as outlined in a whitepaper here: http://static.googleusercontent.com... and while I had thought of something along these lines, it would have been too easy! Nevertheless, these folks will receive a t-shirt as well because I liked the responses! :) (there are a couple that didn't supply their size and address though!)

A couple of other readers had somewhat philosophical responses about the evolution of a dragonfly, which I found quite interesting and somewhat fitting with the evolution of the Gandi network. A t-shirt for you too!

Thanks again for your support and we'll of course keep you updated with the evolution of the network as the next stages are implemented.

New storage infrastructure - Frederic Erk

My server is up and running again. At last.

After the big mess of November resulting in the deletion of all my web mail, Gandi wrote a few words telling me that it is unfortunate I was provisioned with the wrong IP (something related to the new Gandi AI OS). All right, but again, nothing more. I mean, my server was down for 24 hours, and I only get a very terse apology, in the style - you know shit happens. This is not what I expect from a company hosting my server. I don't expect apologies, even if they would be welcome, but just 100 percent reliability. I read again about the philosophy of Gandi, which is explained with the 'No Bullshit' motto. I think that Gandi should be less pretentious about not bullshitting its clients. It is not a good message, because it means nothing and invites criticism when things go wrong. Which happened twice in less than two months in my case.

Time to go down to earth and begin working instead of using fancy words, or criticising other companies. Gandi has grown and it is time to assume its responsibilities as a global provider of services. 'No Bullshit' is juvenile and inadequate. That is my opinion.

Gandi used to be a good company with NO BULLSHIT. Remove the bull, and the negative, and you get the SHIT. Gandi erased by mistake my webmail. I had to beg to get something in exchange for that. Imagine what I got. 256 MB of free memory for my server, for six months. Ouuffff.

Even better now. I could not access my server anymore. Which is just great for a freelancer who is making business online... But that is not the worst. I say to myself, ok, ok, let's erase the server, create a new one from scratch...

I am waiting since yesterday 2 PM to have it online....

Of course I sent an email to the support, but WITHOUT ANSWER of course. Only the generic answer, we are working PROBABLY on it. I love the PROBABLY.

Probability of my server being down, 100 percent.

Probability of my leaving GANDI. 100 percent.

Probability of losing time and money. 100 percent.

Phew, with statistics, I am getting better.

Please do not use GANDI for hosting your website. It used to be good, but now GANDI is worthless. Just worthless.

I quite like some of the responses that I've been receiving so far on this. Let's up the stakes a little! In addition to the 5 t-shirts to the first five who send in the right answer to the contest, I will also select another 5 responses that, while not really the right answer, I think are sufficiently cool and interesting to merit a prize! :)

Keep the responses coming !
